For future reference a neat program called " Windows Repair" will make a copy of the Windows Registry as scheduled, say, every time you do a fresh boot. Then if this condition happens again there's a convenient DOS batch file that will restore a healthy version of the Registry, and if that boots up and gets you back into Windows, you're all set.
Rich Urmann, Okay I guess you tried using a Windows Recovery CD or DVD and then doing a System Restore to a point in time before you had this problem, only to discover all your restore points gone. You can also try using the Recovery Environment to repair Windows - but if that doesn't work then I think there is an option to do a "repair install" of Windows.
